President's Message May 2025
This has been a challenging spring – hopefully your calendars will become a little less packed as the spring semester draws to a close. As they (hopefully) do, I invite you to join the ACSN Book Club. A study conducted by the University of Sussex showed that reading can reduce stress by up to 68% - which is more than listening to music or going for a walk. As someone who lists these three things among my favorite hobbies, I was surprised at the statistic. I would’ve picked walking as the best way of reducing stress. Research has proven that reading (or listening to) books is a great escape from the pressures of daily life. Other benefits include prolonging one’s life span, increasing intelligence and even better sleep! Our book club has just started reading I Never Thought of it That Way: How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times by Monica Guzman. The June ACSN Member Discussion group will be dedicated to discussing the book, which is being presented by the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of ACSN. If you have questions or would like to join the book club, please reach out to: Pat Fligge, Katie McCue, or Kate Sawicki. And here’s a YouTube channel to help create the mood ~ enjoy!
